Dark Bronze Steel Glazing for a Cotswold Stone Outbuilding

Some buildings don’t need shouting about, they need the right details, done beautifully.

This Cotswold stone outbuilding was being transformed into a bright, calm space with a stronger connection to the garden. The owners wanted glazing that felt architectural and refined, but still sympathetic to the stonework and setting. Our solution was Crittall steel glazing in a rich Dark Bronze finish, softer than black, and timeless against natural materials.

The client wanted to bring in more natural light and open up clearer views to the garden, with no heavy framing. Just as importantly, the finish needed to sit beautifully alongside the stone, slate, and surrounding landscaping, and to improve year-round comfort without changing the building's character.

Our approach:

We designed, supplied and installed a cohesive suite of steel glazing so every elevation feels considered, not pieced together.

The finish was key: RAL 8080 Matt (Dark Bronze), chosen for its warmth and depth against the Cotswold stone.

Installed systems:

  • W20 steel doors/screens
  • Homelight Plus steel windows

Installation:

As with most heritage stone buildings, nothing is perfectly square, so precise surveying and careful fitting are essential. This was a replacement project, fixed in stone, completed over four installation days.

The result:

From the outside, the glazing feels quietly confident, a refined grid, balanced proportions, and a dark bronze finish that sits naturally with the stone rather than fighting it.

From the inside, it’s transformative: more light, more calm, and a beautifully framed view of the garden. The steelwork adds structure and elegance, while the glazing specification supports comfort day-to-day.
